Records show that the first Lime Kiln on Texada Island went into operation in 1887 at Blubber Bay. With the constant demand for Lime other kilns were also built in Lime Kiln Bay and Marble Bay. Limestone was cooked in the kilns then barreled and shipped to customers in Canada and USA.

Barrel factories were also established in these communities.
