Located on the west side of Texada Island, Gillies Bay was first surveyed Oct.2, 1875.  With its golden sand tidal flats Gillies Bay has been the home to prospectors, loggers, miners and once was described as “Teachers’ Paradise”.

Dr. J. R. Sanderson first came to Gillies Bay in 1925 and over a period of time he bought 148 acres. Retiring in 1947 he made Gillies Bay his permanent home and later subdivided the property as we know it today.

1952 saw Texada Mines purchase the property at the head end of Gillies Bay and establish a camp site to house at one time over 200 miners and Staff. The camp included a cook house, commissary, carpentry shop, fire hall, bank and clinic.
