Anderson Bay, Texada Island, BC, Canada

............................................................................

Blasted by winter storms, this remote area was homesteaded in the early 1900’s where the once colourful marble deposits were quarried and used in building the Victoria Legislature buildings and Vancouver’s Carnegie Library.

In the 1940’s Dougan and Sons Logging of Cobble Hill started to logging in the area.  2 years later they were joined by their relatives the Cox Brothers Logging of Cowichan. They built a large camp, booming grounds, school house and airstrip. Regular trips to Pender Harbour for groceries and mail was on the Texada Queen - their 36-foot barge with wheelhouse.

When logging ended in 1959 the community at Anderson Bay dwindled and the area was reclaimed by nature and returned to its former isolation, beauty and quiet.
